MISSION &
OBJECTIVE
To promote western
Pennsylvania digital filmmaking and filmmakers.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The first annual Venango Digital
Film Festival took place in November of 2007 and attracted 12 films of excellent
quality which showcased the region and the region's filmmakers.
The 2008 Venango Digital Film Festival was held in three beautiful restored
historic theaters: the Crawford Center in Emlenton, PA (Friday, September 12),
the Latonia Theater in Oil City, PA (Saturday, September 13), and the
Barrow-Civic Theater in Franklin, PA (Sunday, September 14). People's Choice
awards were selected each evening, and the top three films received cash prizes:
FIRST PLACE: THE EMLENTON MILL BY THE PAUL NEWBURY FAMILY
SECOND PLACE: IRON FURNACES OF VENANGO COUNTY BY MATTHEW
HOVIS
THIRD PLACE: ALONG THE ALLEGHENY BY JIM JEFFRIES
HONORABLE MENTION: THE BEETLE SHOP BY MATTHEW HOVIS
In addition, we sponsored a 10-15 minute screenplay competition with the
theme of Oil Boom Days in Venango County, in conjunction with the 150th
Anniversary of the Discovery of Oil. The two winning screenplays will be
produced and screened over the two year period of the Oil 150 Celebration.*
MICHAEL MOON FOR
THE LOVE OF A SON
AMY DITTMAN FOR A WARNING TO YOUNG LADIES

* This is a change from the previously announced Run and
Gun-style filming over the festival weekend. Due to the withdrawal of
committed technical support two weeks before the Film Festival,
production of the winning screenplays will take place at a later date.
Inclusion in the Great Lakes Film Festival for 2008 will therefore not be
possible because of the timing. We apologize to all scriptwriters who
submitted their screenplays with that expectation and congratulate winning
scriptwriters Michael Moon and Amy Dittman.
